For research, HTA partners with Repucom, an international sports and entertainment company that provides research for the state tourism authority every two years. HTA asks Repucom for a report on the top markets – such as Australia or Japan – and what their biggest sports are, such as basketball, soccer or rugby.
Other metrics provided by Repucom include how many times “Hawaii” or “Waikiki” were mentioned during a TV broadcast, and how many postcards — or the scenic cutaways during a broadcast — played during a game and what they showed.
